Geek Girl's Paint Night

My friend Chloe and I had a different kind of Paint Night on Friday.  We both had a pair of Lekku that we had to paint so we could start wearing them to cosplay and Rebel Legion events.   For those not in the know, Lekku are the head-tails that come out of the heads of Twi'lek and Togruta in the Star Wars universe.  Our specific Lekku are for Twi'lek.  Most of you may recall the green dancer in Jabba's Palace during Return of the Jedi.  That green dancer was a Twi'lek.

Chloe is an extremely talented cosplayer.  She has done a couple other Twi'lek in the past, and has a Togruta.  She invited me over to do some painting, so how could I refuse?  We both wanted to use skin-tone paints on our Lekku so we would not have to paint our bodies to match the color of the Lekku.  I also wanted to have a splash of color in mine, so I did the tips of mine in purple and tried a fade to skin tone.

We used a wide-spread airbrush.  It did the work very quickly.  It connected easily to Chloe's current compressor.  We both used Temptu Pro paints (alcohol-based).  I chose Sand for my skin tone, and Purple for my tips.  I had intended on using Purple and Orange, as an homage to Sabine, but we found something quite peculiar about the Temptu Pro paints.  It seems they do not like water.  At all.  When cleaning out the one jar for the next round of paint, we did not get all the water out of the bottle.  The Orange paint quite literally clumped up in the jar, which then clogged the airbrush.  It took us a long time to figure that out!  So, no Orange for me!

I attempted my first airbrushing experience with a "fade" of purple.  The picture on the left you can see an unpainted area in the middle between the Purple and Sand.  The one on the right is completed. I filled in the space with the skin tone color Chloe had because I was out of Sand.  It blended very, very well and I think it captures my vision I had for my lekku.  I am very excited about this and cannot wait for the first troop I can do with them.   We both had a very successful Geek Girl's Paint Night!

Chloe also has an Etsy store called Lady Leo Cosplay.  She sells the Twi'lek headbands.  Mine is only one of many she sells!  She has more in the store as well.  Go check her out at Lady Cleo Cosplay now!
