Running in 2019

So my Disney running will not happen this year. Yup, no Star Wars for me this year. Something very personal came up to be scheduled at that time, and I need to be home for it.  But it's all good. rD was VERY accomodating with me and actually refunded just less than half of my registration fees in the form of a Disney gift card (which now can be used for registrations now that rD is off of Active), and Shades of Green was able to move (and increase) my reservation for January for Marathon Weekend!  It's all good!

I have done RnR events in the past, including Montreal, Quebec. Late last year I had signed up to run the Rock and Roll (RnR) DC Half. Even though it's historically freezing, I'm going to go for it. One of my Star Wars lady friends is also running and it's her FIRST half marathon!!  I'm very excited for her.  Last year I also signed up to run the Rock and Roll Philly Half.  I recently saw an update that RnR created a Limited Edition medal called The Founders Medal. Runners will get for completing the half or full in DC and the half in Philly!! I think the medal is very nice!

So today whilst perusing the RnR website, I read a little something that said there was also a Limited Edition medal if you ran any of the main hub cities of United Airlines, one of RnR events biggest sponsors. The five main United hub cities are Washington DC/Dulles, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, and Chengdu, China.  I had to look in to that Limited Edition because Chicago is THE United Hub, and I still have a million relatives still living up there.

I found a video of the United medal - it's a spinner!  It has the 5 hub city names on one side of the frame, and their corresponding airport codes on the other side of the frame. The spinner portion has the 4 US-based hubs on one side, and Chengdu hub on the other side of the spinner! You can find out more about the various limited edition medals here: https://www.runrocknroll.com/en/programs/medals/limited-edition-medals

Needless to say, I did sign up for Chicago.  I actually got my hotel reservation first, then signed up for the race. I'm also a GOVX member, so I got $15 of my registration. I am also considering running Virginia Beach, but I will be in marathon training mode for a January marathon by then and have to make sure it fits the plan.

Most people familiar with RnR know that you can sign up for their Heavy Medal program. It's free to enter, but you must sign up for it.  After you run two or more half marathons, full marathons, or combination of the two in the same calendar year, you will get a special medal mailed to you.  This year they have revamped the look of the Heavy Medals and I like what they did.

"Take A Bow" is for doing two RnR halfs or fulls. I'm not entirely sure what that is but to me it looks like a lady bowing on stage??

"In Too Deep" is for doing three RnR halfs or fulls in the same calendar year. You can find out more about Heavy Medals here: https://www.runrocknroll.com/en/programs/medals/heavy-medals

So I'm quite excited about 2019 and all of my RnR events!  Have you ever done any of the RnR events?  Did you get any Heavy Medals or Limited Edition ones?
